I am by no means a wine expert, but I like to think that I drink enough of it to know a thing or two about it. People travel the world in search of great wines, crossing the globe and touching down in France, Italy, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina, and here in the United States. But you don’t have to trek around the world or across the country to savor the perfect glass of wine.

Luckily for us, Kevin Zraly was absent not just during the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center towers, but also during the first bombing of Tower 1 in 1993. As the first wine cellar master of the famous restaurant Windows on the World, and now author of several books, Mr. Zraly has been teaching an informative wine class, called Windows on the World Complete Wine Course, for 34 years. The classes are meant to arm any wine enthusiast, whether novice or experienced, with a true understanding of basic wine identification and pairing. Pairing with what, you ask? Why FOOD, of course!!!

What could be better than a liquor store with thousands of types of wines, hundreds of craft beers, a huge selection of cheeses and a walk in humidor of cigars? Wineworks is a new wine store that opened up this past year in Marlton, NJ. They call it a wine store but it has plenty of beer, hard liquor and
cocktail mixers. A walk around the store revealed that you can buy some very unique wines and beers for very competitive prices. Did you ever see this many types of beer on one shelf? You can also “create your own six pack” by picking out six different types of beers.

I feel dizzy. And no, it is not from all the wine tasting I did, although I did have to take a much needed break between the whites and the reds… It is from the sheer number of wines that were available to try at Friday night’s 3rd annual NJ Spring Wine Tasting Festival in Short Hills. Over 100 wines were presented by 15 wineries and distributors. Where does one begin? Well, as I was determining my strategy, I was standing at a table of French wines about to ask for a taste of the Sancerre, when someone came up and asked for “anything white”. I was a bit taken aback, as even though I am hardly an expert, I think I know my Chardonnays from my Sauvignon Blancs! Turns out that there were approximately 425 festival attendees, and if I had a nickel for how many times I heard this heartbreaking request throughout the evening I would not have to look for a day job.
