For the past couple of years, we’ve enjoyed locally grown New Jersey produce and other local products at the annual Farm to Fork restaurant event sponsored by South Jersey Hot Chefs. Held each summer, the event provides participating chefs in the Burlington, Camden and Gloucester county areas to strut their culinary stuff and showcase local food producers at the same time. The South Jersey Hot Chefs website lists the participating restaurant, so you can peruse menus through links to the websites of member restaurants. Dinners are priced at either $35 or $25, and typically include 3, 4 or even 5 courses. Many of the locations are BYOB, so you can tote along your favorite wine, too,

I have a new love in my life; well, actually two new loves. My first introduction to the Two Guys Jersey Tomato Sauces was when their PR company sent me a bottle to sample several months ago. I loved the sauce, but life got in the way and I sort of forgot about writing a review. Not sort of, I did forget. But when I bumped into the owner at the Atlantic City Food and Wine Festival (and happily saw them doing so well), I remembered my review. So yesterday, when I saw a bright red stack of the jars at my local Foodtown, I knew it was time to give these boys the credit they deserve. I bought two jars and taste tested to my hungry heart’s content. »» Product Pick: Two Guys Jersey Tomato Sauce

I just had to share this picture of the tomatoes I picked today from my humble little backyard garden. Isn’t that a lovely bunch. As you can see, this year I decided to really mix it up with a lot of heirloom varieties. Last year, I fell in love with the big, pinkish Brandywine tomatoes but I couldn’t find them this year. So, I opted for the Green Zebra, yellow cherry tomatoes, Mr. Stripey and your classic hybrid red. (Can’t remember what variety it is, sorry.)

This is a Jersey Bites original recipe and a really delicious one. I originally made this Tomato Soup in September 2008 for the Foodbuzz, 24, 24, 24 event.

When Foodbuzz put out the call for event proposals for the 24 Meals in 24 Hours on 24 Blogs the first and only idea that came to mind were my enormous tomato plants and the abundance of gorgeous Jersey tomatoes I had at my fingertips. So, a tomato garden party seemed in order. Click here to watch the Video.
When I got the news that my proposal had been selected it was time to get moving (panic). I called on my friends and fellow Jersey Biters, The Party Blueprint Girls, for a plan of attack. Within one day they had a complete blueprint including table setting, invitation, music and wine suggestions.

Pasta is a rare treat for me these days. My kids actually can’t stand pasta unless its Kraft Mac and Cheese. I know, its a shameful admission, believe me. I blame it on the fact that we do not have one speck of Italian blood on either side of the family. My Grandfather wouldn’t even allow garlic in the house. Now that’s just sacrilege even to a non-Italian like me.

Ah yes, great tomatoes indeed. July is the longest month of the year when you are waiting for your backyard tomatoes to ripen. I am a bit obsessed actually since we are using my father’s Japanese Tomato Ring method. My son and I are out there measuring them on a weekly basis. I’m happy to say that my childhood memory served me correctly. I remembered the plants growing taller than my 6′ 2″ father and we have well exceeded this mark. The plants are now at 6’8″. As you can see in the picture with my youngest son, these babies are huge. My research tells me that they can grow to 10 feet. My stakes are only 7 feet, so I’m in trouble if they keep at it until September and I am definitely going to need a ladder.
