Living at the Jersey Shore, it’s easy to get tired of pizza and cheesesteaks. Alumni Grill in Wildwood takes traditional American cuisine and subjects it to amazing twists and transformations to create an innovative menu that keeps me counting down all winter for opening day. While their menu is packed with flavorful, interesting sandwiches, wraps and burgers, there’s one in particular that’s like nothing I’ve ever had before: The Jekyll & Hyde Cheesesteak.

It looks pretty unassuming (shown here on a wrap so I can tell myself it’s healthy), but wait until you take a bite. It’s 1/2 beef and 1/2 chicken steak with savory bits of bacon tossed in, melted provolone cheese and “special Jekyll Sauce” that makes this cheesesteak unforgettable if not addictive. I’m always full after one half, but it’s so delicious I can’t stop taking bites.

I’ve often heard about the traditional Christmas Eve Feast of the Seven Fishes from many of my Italian friends, but being a combination of Irish and German, I’ve never had a chance to partake in this seafood extravaganza. On Friday night, Chef Geoffrey Johnson invited Celebrity Chef Maria Liberati to his Cape May restaurant, The Copper Fish, for a chef demo that combined Maria’s traditional, Old World style with Geoff’s nuevo twist on seafood to create a unique take on the traditional feast.

This is probably the busiest pie-making week of the year and if you’ve got a lot of pie scraps lying around, don’t throw them away! Pie fries are a much tastier alternative. They’re easy, delicious and make a creative dessert or a sweet appetizer for the nibblers in your family.

On Saturday, the Cape May County Chapter of the Red Knights hosted a ride from Main Street Cycle in Cape May Court House to Natali Vineyard where they served pulled pork platters to raise money for local food banks. The club also collected non-perishable food items to donate. It was a gorgeous day for a ride and I christened myself as a real biker by taking my first (and hopefully only) fall turning onto a gravel road. The bruises are ugly, but I was fortunately distracted by the tunes of Geno White playing at the back of the tent and all the amazing food.
