New Jersey Nick’s Pick – Hillsboro Star Diner

In case you haven’t heard of me before, my name is New Jersey Nick, and I’ve been scouring the Garden State looking for all the best Good Food That’s Bad For You. Burgers, Fries, Dogs, Burritos, and anything else that you need to jog off the next day. No fancy places for me. Just burger joints, diners and haunts favored by adventurous eaters and carnivores alike. I find the best places, and I hope you go give them a shot. Today, I take on a burger from The Hillsboro Star Diner. »» New Jersey Nick’s Pick – Hillsboro Star Diner

New Jersey Bar and Grill in Mine Hill–Where Everybody Knows Your Name

Mine Hill is a tiny community in western Morris County with a population of 4,500.  When New Jersey Bar and Grill opened in Mine Hill in 2006, it was one of just a few places where locals could visit to have a drink after work or to watch the game on Sunday, “My business partner and I grew up in Randolph and had known of this location for many years.  When we were ready to purchase our first establishment, this location happened to be available”, said Greg Galdieri, co-proprietor of New Jersey Bar and Grill.

Red Meat Lovers Rejoice at The Great Jersey Shore Burger Contest

Yesterday was the perfect day to be among over 100 beer and beef loving friends at Bar A in Lake Como for the Great Jersey Shore Burger Contest.  I, along with Peter Genovese from The Star Ledger and Munch Mobile fame, Randy Davis from Thunder 106 Rockin’ Country and Brian Durand of Shore Point Distributing shared the daunting task of picking a winner from eleven restaurants who truly brought their best. Every burger had something outstanding to offer.  There wasn’t a bad bite in the bunch.

New Jersey Nick’s Pick: The Morristown Diner

When you end up at a diner you don’t know, you never know what you’re gonna get. I know there’s a Yogi Berra’ism in there somewhere but the unknown can be a risky thing when it comes to diners. Lucky for you,  I’m a risk taker.  Sometimes, you get the greatest family owned place with a unique menu and a feel good atmosphere that leaves you full and smiling. Other times, you end up at a dingy truck stop, and you leave feeling, well, down right dingy. All in all, its a relief when you take a chance on a place and end up at a stand-up New Jersey Diner. Morristown Diner is a reliable classic. Its not particularly remarkable, but its certainly not a bad way to get your burger fix. »» New Jersey Nick’s Pick: The Morristown Diner

New Jersey Monthly’s “Great Burger Showdown”

The results of New Jersey Monthly‘s first ever Burger Cook-off were a bit surprising.  Well, at least visually surprising. You can view all of the candidates’ entries and their close ups here.  As you will see, there were some very pretty contestants.  But, according to the judges, when it comes to burgers, it’s all about the beauty that lies within.

It seems fitting to steal some lyrics from two Smash Mouth songs for this review.

Happy 1st Birthday, Elevation Burger Montclair!

The Bloomfield Avenue location of Elevation Burger celebrates a year in Montclair this week, and is the first of its kind in the Garden State. When Jersey Bites stopped in for a visit, we were treated to a tour from co-owner Matt Jerkovich, who emphasized that there’s truth behind the tagline: “Ingredients Matter.”
