When you think of dating someone, the first thing you think of isn’t normally what their food preferences happen to be. But, if you are a vegan it can be one of the things you consider. The American Vegan Society hosted a Valentines Dinner Buffet, at Caremes Restaurant which featured a book signing by Anne Dinshah, daughter of Vegan Society president Freya Dinshah. Anne’s book called Dating Vegans:Recipes for Relationships talks about vegans socializing with non-vegans and how it can be a source of frustration or an opportunity for positive interaction and fun activities.

Salt Ayre Bistro opened in the tiny gem of a space once occupied by Gertrude’s at 7309 Ventnor Ave. in Ventnor. The beautiful new sign out front is very impressive and sure to catch the eye, I love the compass. The eatery is decorated with a coastal vibe, pale gray and white brick wall with striking black and white photographs of seaside architecture. The staff were at once very friendly and helpful. We learned that they were the owners son and wife. The owner is the chef and opened their new restaurant for his sons. They came from another local, LoBianco in Margate, where Salts’ owner was a chef. Did you follow that?

I recently received an e-mail that really touched me. It said this HOLIDAY SEASON we should support our country’s economy. I instantly thought, how is that possible with everything being mass produced for our consumption in other countries. Our family tried to build and furnish our new home a few years ago with “American Made” and found it to be almost impossible and cost prohibitive. How could I possibly do my holiday shopping and support our country as much as possible in the process? As I continued reading the e-mail the sender had made some great suggestions. They recommended buying restaurant, dinner theatre, concert, museum, salon and spa gift certificates, but the idea that grabbed my attention was go to local arts and craft fairs and help a “starving artist” this year. Aha! There were a few fairs in my area and I decided to check one of them out.

Last week, I was invited to one of the Atlantic City Country Club’s wine pairing dinners. The country club, located in Northfield, provided a rustic setting in an old world dining room with floors made of ship’s wood. Even on a rainy evening, the view was spectacular with the lights of Atlantic City visible in the distance.
